Service Update: Impact of Severe Weather Conditions in Western Australia

July 15, 2024

Couriers & Freight Australia is committed to providing timely and reliable delivery services across the country. However, due to recent severe weather events, including heavy rains and flooding in Western Australia, our delivery network is facing significant challenges that may affect the timely arrival of your parcels and freight.

Current Delivery Status

Severe weather has led to the closure of the east-west rail line, causing disruptions in rail freight services. Parcel deliveries to and from Western Australia are expected to experience an estimated delay of 1-2 business days. Despite the challenges posed by the weather, delivery via our Priority (air) and road networks is still available in affected areas. We are diligently working with customers to transfer rail freight to these networks where possible.

Advisory: Temporary Disaster Levy on Road Freight

Due to the prolonged duration of these disruptions, a temporary disaster levy of 15% (excluding GST) will be applied to all road freight services, including Standard Road Parcels service (formerly known as IPEC), Palletised, and Priority Off Peak services. This levy is effective from Thursday, 21 March 2024, for shipments from Western Australia to and from all other states.

This adjustment is due to the significant increase in contractor linehaul costs driven by industry-wide supply and demand issues. Additional contributing factors include the costs associated with transitioning freight from rail to road, impacts on depot operations, added labour costs, weekend operations, and depot congestion.
