This guide outlines and describes the specific items and packaging that cannot be accepted for shipping by StarTrack Express. These restrictions however do not apply to StarTrack Courier Service. Prohibited and Restricted Items According to Packaging and Sizes

The following items are deemed unsuitable for shipment by StarTrack services and are therefore prohibited.

Prohibited Items According to Packaging and Size

  • Any goods with unreadable barcodes
  • Any goods with a length of over 300cm
  • Freight on pallets and skids that exceed the standard dimensions of 120cm(L) X 120cm (W)
  • Freight that may damage or cause delay to other consignments
  • Pallets and skids with a height greater than 180 cm (that cannot be broken down) or height greater than 160cm (if broken down of pallet is required)
  • Pallets with dead weight greater than 800kgs and skids with dead weight greater than 70kgs (If skids exceed 70kgs dead weight, load the freight on a pallet)
  • Single un-palletised goods that are greater than 32kgs in dead weight (If your single item exceeds 32kgs, you should load the freight on a pallet or skid)
  • Wood packaging (crate) with a pallet base greater than 120cm
  • Wood packaging (crate) without pallet-type base

Restricted Items According to Packaging and Size

The following items are deemed unsuitable for shipment and are therefore restricted. However, some services still accept them but could be subject to StarTrack’s consent. We recommend that you make arrangements according to the suggested packaging requirements and volume limitations.

  • Any article with non-standard label templates
  • Boxes and cartons with any dimension less than 5cm (These items may be accepted if they constitute less than 5% of your volume for the specific service in a consecutive 6-month period)
  • Custom pallet or skid frames with dimensions less than 120cm in Length and 120cm in Width (Goods with these dimensions may be accepted if they constitute less than 10% of your volume for the specific service in a consecutive 6-month period)
  • Goods packaged in tubes or cylinders - with or without sleeves (These items may be accepted if they constitute less than 5% of your volume for the specific service in a consecutive 6-month period)
  • Goods that cannot be lifted onto or off a truck by one person using the standard equipment available (Totally prohibited for all StarTrack services, but may be accepted under Special Services. Speak to your account manager for further information.)
  • Items with dimensions greater than 117cm(L) 60cm (W) 60cm (H) or dead weight greater than 20kgs (Only applies to Road Express and Special Services. These items may be accepted if they constitute less than 5% of your volume for the specific service in a consecutive 6-month period)
  • Items with dimensions greater than 100cm (L) 60cm (W) 60cm (H) or dead weight greater than 22kgs (Only applies to Security Express, Premium and Next Flight services. These items may be accepted if they constitute less than 5% of your volume for the specific service in a consecutive 6-month period)
  • Pallets with dead weight less than 800kgs and skids with dead weight less than 70kgs (Goods with these dimensions may be accepted if they constitute less than 10% of your volume for the specific service in a consecutive 6-month period)
  • Satchels, totes, jiffy bags, bubble wrap, plastic wrap, and other non-rigid packaging (Prohibited for Road Express and Special Services)

Prohibited Items from StarTrack services

The following items are strictly prohibited from shipment and must not be sent through all StarTrack services (Road Express, Special Services, Security Express, Premium and Next Flight).

Sending any of these items may result in heavy fines and prosecution.

  • Alcoholic Beverages
  • Ammunition
  • Automobile parts (for parts that can be cartonised, speak to your account manager for further details)
  • Counterfeit goods
  • Currency (Australian cash and banknotes)
  • Furniture and White Goods (Assembled) - StarTrack prohibits these items from all services if it doesn’t comply with the packaging requirements
  • Machinery and Agricultural equipment (If not in cartons or doesn’t comply with pallet and/or skid packaging requirements, StarTrack prohibits these items from all services)
  • Magnets (Applies to any material that has a compass deflection of 2 inches at 2.1 meters from any point on the package surface)
  • Manufactured metal items (Such as frames, rods, gates, tracks, security doors, and similar goods that are not in cartons are prohibited.
  • Motorbikes and automobiles (Disassembled parts that are not described as prohibited may be accepted as long as they are packaged properly)
  • Refrigerated or Perishable Items (Goods that are for human consumption; these are prohibited since StarTrack operates in an ambient network)
  • Sandbags (Includes items such as fertiliser bags, filled garden bags, pool salt bags and rice bags)
  • Tyres (Includes motorbike tyres that are not in cartons)
  • Wire spools or Drums on skids/pallets 

Restricted Items from StarTrack services

The following items are deemed unsuitable for shipment and are therefore restricted. However, some services still accept them but could be subject to StarTrack’s consent.

  • Alcohol (StarTrack generally prohibits alcohol from its services but alcohol in hampers may be accepted in limited quantities for Premium Service. This also depends on relevant state laws and restrictions on alcohol delivery. Speak to your account manager for further information.)
  • Animals (Living or Deceased such as bees, leeches, silkworms, silkworm eggs, and other harmless insects may be sent through Security Express, Premium or Next Flight services. However, this is subject to compliance with Federal/State laws and regulations.)
  • Antiquities, Antiques, and Works of Art (These items are permitted to be sent through Security Express. For Next Flight service, this may be accepted if packaged according to StarTrack’s packaging guidelines. Speak to your account manager for further details.)
  • Bonds, Securities and Negotiable Instruments of any kind (Goods must not exceed $5,000 in value per delivery and could only be sent through Security Express Service.)
  • Cigarettes, Tobacco, and Tobacco products (May be accepted through Security Express service but are subject to StarTrack’s consent.)
  • Currency - Foreign cash and banknotes (May be accepted through Security Express and Premium services but is subject to StarTrack’s consent.)
  • Eskies, Styrofoam boxes, Plastic boxes, Suitcases, and similar items (These items are accepted in the Next Flight service. If you opt for a Premium Service, follow StarTrack’s packaging guidelines. However, if you prefer Road Express, Special Services or Security Express, these may be accepted but they are subject to StarTrack’s consent.)
  • Glass products, China, and Ceramics (Prohibited for Road Express and Special Services but could be accepted through Security Express, Premium and Next Flight services but must follow StarTrack’s packaging guidelines.)
  • Gold, Silver, Other precious metals, Jewelry and Gemstones (These items could be shipped through Security Express service without restrictions. If you choose Premium or Next Flight service, these may be accepted but are subject to StarTrack’s consent.)
  • Human tissue, Organs, Blood or Blood products (These items could be shipped through Next Flight service. For Premium, these could be subject to StarTrack’s consent.)
  • Liquids (These items include, but are not limited to health products, beauty products and drinks. These are restricted items for all StarTrack services but may be accepted if packaged according to StarTrack’s packaging guidelines.)
  • Nails, Screws, Bolts, and Tins (These are restricted items for all StarTrack services but may be accepted if packaged according to StarTrack’s packaging guidelines. These should be placed in cartons and in two layers of packaging.)
  • Plants, and Plant Materials, including Seeds (These items are permitted through Premium service but subject to compliance with Federal/State laws and regulations. This may also be accepted through Security Express and Next Flight services with prior consent from StarTrack.)
  • Refrigerated/Perishable items (Items in this category that are not for human consumption may be accepted through Premium and Next Flight services but must follow StarTrack’s packaging guidelines.)
  • Valuable Documents (These items are permitted through Security Express but must undergo security screening. These could also be accepted through Next Flight service but are subject to StarTrack’s consent.
  • Weapons (These items must be from certified dealers only and may be accepted through Road Express but must follow StarTrack’s packaging guidelines. For Security Express, these items are subject to StarTrack’s consent.

Specific Restrictions for Drugs and Other Non-Refrigerated Medicines

Restriction levels and sender obligations vary depending on the drug or medicine classification and Federal/State laws and regulations. The customer is responsible for identifying whether StarTrack’s services are suitable for the transport of their drugs or medicines and for packaging them appropriately for transport within an ambient network.

The “Schedule” classifications below are derived from the Commonwealth Standard for Uniform Scheduling of Medicines and Poisons.

  • Controlled Drugs - Schedule 8 (These drugs/medicines may be accepted through Security Express, Premium, and Next Flight services but are subject to StarTrack’s consent.)
  • Medicinal Cannabis - Schedule 3,4 and 8 (These drugs/medicines may be accepted through Security Express, Premium, and Next Flight services but are subject to StarTrack’s consent.)
  • Pharmacy Medicines (Schedule 2), Pharmacist Only Medicines (Schedule 3), Prescription Only Medicines (Schedule 4), and Prescription Animal Remedies (Schedule 4) - Permitted in all StarTrack services
  • Prohibited Substances (Schedule 9) - These substances are prohibited in all StarTrack services
