eBay Seller Fees in Australia: What You're Actually Paying in 2026

eBay seller fees in Australia changed from 12 May 2026, when eligible Australia-based sellers began paying no transaction fees on sales at or below $25,000 over a rolling 12-month period. eBay Australia confirmed the change applies across all categories under its free-selling model.

This guide explains how eBay seller fees work in Australia in 2026, including who qualifies for free selling, what the Pro plan costs, which additional charges still apply, and how shipping costs affect your overall margins.

eBay Seller Fees in Australia Explained for 2026

Here's the short version of what changed and what it means for your bottom line.

  • Australia-based sellers with $25,000 or less in sales over a rolling 12-month period pay no transaction fees when selling on eBay Australia across all categories.
  • Sellers who exceed $25,000 in annual sales are automatically moved to a Pro Starter subscription, which has no monthly subscription fee.
  • The Pro Starter plan applies a Final Value Fee of 13.4% of the total sale amount up to $4,000, plus 2.5% on any amount above $4,000 and a fixed $0.30 order fee.
  • For eligible non-Pro sellers, Buyer Protection is paid by the buyer and is calculated as $0.30 per item plus a tiered percentage of the item price.
  • Sellers using the free-selling tier are generally required to purchase postage labels through eBay to maintain eligibility, while Pro sellers can source shipping labels independently.
  • Additional fees may apply for international sales, Below-Standard seller performance, optional listing upgrades, and selected categories.

Free Selling vs Pro Plan: Which Tier Applies to You

The biggest question Australian sellers are asking after the April 2026 announcement is simple: which fee structure am I actually on?

The answer depends on your sales volume over the past 12 months and whether you've opted into advanced selling tools.

Private Casual Sellers (Free Tier)

If your total sales across eBay sites, including shipping and taxes, are $25,000 or less over a rolling 12-month period, you qualify for the free selling tier. Under this tier, you pay no transaction fees when selling on eBay Australia, regardless of category.

Buyer Protection applies to listings from eligible non-Pro sellers and is paid directly by the buyer. The fee is calculated as follows:

  • $0.30 per item
  • 8% of the first $20 of the item price
  • 6% of the portion from $20 to $500
  • 4% of the portion from $500 to $5,000
  • No additional fee above $5,000

To remain eligible for free selling, sellers must purchase postage labels through eBay except where specific exemptions apply. Eligible sellers receive up to 250,000 free listings per month under the free-selling structure.

Professional and High-Volume Sellers (Pro Plan)

Once your sales exceed $25,000 over a rolling 12-month period, or you choose to subscribe to a Pro plan, you move to the Pro Starter tier.

The Pro Starter plan carries no monthly subscription fee. Sellers pay a Final Value Fee of 13.4% on the total sale amount, including item price, postage, handling charges, and applicable taxes, up to $4,000.

Any amount above $4,000 is charged at 2.5%, plus a fixed $0.30 fee per order.

Buyer Protection is included on Pro listings at no additional cost to the buyer.

Additional Fees That Can Cut Into Your Margin

Transaction fees are only one part of the total cost of selling on eBay. Depending on how you sell, additional fees can reduce your overall profit margin.

  1. Non-Fungible Token (NFT) listings are subject to a 5.5% Final Value Fee. Services listings incur a fixed $44 fee. Automotive categories may incur a 13.6% fee or a fixed $40 charge, depending on the listing type.
  2. A 3% international fee applies when an item is sold to a buyer outside Australia.
  3. A 5.5 percentage point surcharge applies when a seller is rated Below Standard or falls into the Very High service metrics category.
  4. Optional upgrades such as Reserve Price listings, subtitle additions, and Promoted Listings incur separate charges when selected.

eBay Seller Fees in Australia: Frequently Asked Questions

Do I pay any fees if I sell under $25,000 a year on eBay?

No transaction fees apply if your sales stay at or below $25,000 over a rolling 12-month period. Buyer Protection is paid by the buyer, not the seller, under this tier.

What is eBay's Final Value Fee on the Pro plan?

The Pro Starter plan charges 13.4% on the total sale amount up to $4,000, plus 2.5% on any amount above that, and a fixed $0.30 fee per order.

Who pays the Buyer Protection fee?

The buyer pays it directly on eligible non-Pro listings. It's calculated as $0.30 per item plus a tiered percentage of the item price.

Can Pro sellers source their own postage labels?

Yes. Free-tier sellers must buy postage through eBay to stay fee-free, but Pro sellers can source labels independently and compare carrier rates directly.
