Flexeo vs Australia Post: Who Offers Faster, Cheaper Delivery?

Jun 18, 2025

For many local businesses, Australia Post (AusPost) remains the default choice for parcel and business-to-customer (B2C) delivery. Most continue using the service out of habit or brand loyalty, not necessarily because it’s the most efficient option.

That assumption was recently put to the test when one of our clients faced spiralling costs and delivery delays, Couriers & Freight tested a new approach. Could there be a faster, more affordable alternative to AusPost that also delivers on weekends?

In this case study, we explore how a tech-forward provider like Flexeo compares to AusPost on cost, coverage, and delivery performance.

Quick Summary: Which Courier Is Cheaper and Faster?

In a direct comparison of business parcel delivery services in Australia, Flexeo delivered a 7% cost saving and offered a more flexible alternative for Australian businesses.

Flexeo also provides real-time parcel tracking and a full 7-day delivery cycle, including Saturday and Sunday service. These features reduce delivery delays, keep customers informed, and help businesses improve their order fulfilment process.

Despite the measurable improvements, the client stuck with AusPost. This shows how brand familiarity can outweigh cost savings and performance in business logistics.

The Client’s Challenge

Our client, an Australian business with significant shipping volume, approached Couriers & Freight as they were facing rising costs and delivery bottlenecks in their logistics operations. Their primary objective was to reduce delivery costs and improve transit times, which directly impacted their e-commerce fulfilment strategy.

On top of this, they were under pressure to offer weekend delivery and real-time tracking, both essential in a fast-paced e-commerce environment.

Historically, their logistics relied heavily on AusPost, but the limitations of a one-size-fits-all provider soon became clear. They realised it was time to re-evaluate their delivery model and find a logistics partner who could scale with them and address their growing concerns.

This created the perfect scenario to test smarter delivery models designed to meet the demands of modern retail.

The Flexeo Strategy

To solve the client’s logistics challenges, Couriers & Freight partnered with Flexeo to create a more agile and cost-efficient delivery model. This collaboration used Flexeo’s intelligent routing technology to build a highly optimised delivery model to overcome delays, limited weekend delivery, and static routing common in traditional networks.

Seven-Day Delivery and Scalable Fleet Operations

Flexeo deployed a dedicated fleet of 20–30 carriers operating daily, seven days a week, including full weekend coverage. This setup ensures reliable capacity, broad coverage, and scalability as demand shifts.

Volume-Based Dispatching for Efficiency and Sustainability

By activating deliveries only once zone-specific volume thresholds were met, Flexeo avoided wasteful trips. The result: lower fuel use, fewer emissions, and approximately 15,000 deliveries per week, without compromising service.

Data-Driven Technology and Optimisation

Powered by real-time tracking and dynamic route optimisation, Flexeo’s system improved delivery speed and resource use, while giving customers full visibility from dispatch to doorstep.

In the end, the Flexeo strategy delivered a responsive and cost-effective alternative to traditional networks, purposely built for the evolving needs of modern Australian businesses.

6 Benefits of Flexeo Delivery

Flexeo’s delivery solution delivered measurable improvements aligned with the client’s goals, clearly outperforming their legacy provider, AusPost.

  1. Cost savings: A 7% reduction in weekly delivery spend through smarter routing and density-based dispatching.
  2. Full weekend delivery: Daily service, including both Saturday and Sunday, expanded the delivery window and improved convenience for end-customers, especially for e-commerce and time-sensitive orders.
  3. Real-time tracking: Customers had real-time visibility on their shipment from dispatch to delivery. This kept them aware of where their parcels were and reduced missed deliveries.
  4. Higher customer satisfaction: Faster deliveries, consistent communication, and better availability drove improved feedback and fewer complaints
  5. Operational flexibility: The solution is adapted to shifting parcel volumes and regional demand, supporting more agile decision-making.
  6. Seamless integration: Flexeo’s model aligned well with the client’s existing dispatch workflows, requiring minimal onboarding time or infrastructure changes.
  7. Scalable design: The system was built to handle growth, ensuring that delivery performance remained consistent even as order volumes increased.

These results aren’t limited to one business. Other SMEs and retailers can unlock similar gains through smarter courier strategies.

Why the Client Still Stayed with Australia Post

Despite measurable cost savings and stronger service performance, the client ultimately chose to remain with Australia Post. This isn’t uncommon; many businesses find it difficult to move away from familiar providers.

The comfort of established relationships, long-standing supplier contracts, and known internal workflows often outweighs the appeal of innovation. Even when the data points to a better option, perceived risk can hold back change.

That’s why Couriers & Freight doesn’t just propose better logistics. We guide clients through change and help them implement new solutions smoothly without disrupting fulfilment operations.

The Familiar vs The Innovative

This case study reveals a hard truth: even when the numbers make sense, many businesses hesitate to embrace change. Better pricing and performance alone aren’t enough. Real transformation depends on leaders willing to rethink long-standing logistics habits.

Our Flexeo pilot showed what’s possible: faster service, lower costs, and broader delivery coverage. These improvements are critical to enhancing customer experience and protecting profit margins. But the client’s decision to stay with AusPost proves that fear of disruption often outweighs innovation.

Still relying on default courier solutions? Now’s the time to reassess. The logistics landscape is shifting fast. And smart businesses are adapting to stay ahead. Not sure where to start?
