Amazon Fulfilment Centres in Australia: Locations and How They Work

Amazon fulfilment centres across Australia form a network that continues to expand. Amazon has also announced a new $750 million robotics fulfilment centre in Queensland, further strengthening its national fulfilment network. For businesses using Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA), understanding how these centres operate is just as important as knowing where they are located.

This guide explains where Amazon fulfilment centres are located across Australia and how they process stock once it arrives.

How Amazon Fulfilment Centres Work and Where They Are Located

Understanding where Amazon fulfilment centres are located is only part of the process. Once your shipment reaches an Amazon fulfilment centre, it moves through a structured receiving and fulfilment process before it becomes available for customer orders.

How an Amazon Fulfilment Centre Processes Stock

According to Amazon's official Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) documentation, inventory follows a structured process from shipment preparation through customer delivery.

  1. Send your products to Amazon. The seller creates a shipping plan, prepares and labels the products to Amazon's packing and routing requirements, then sends the shipment to an Amazon fulfilment centre, either directly or via pickup by an Amazon Partnered Carrier from an eligible Australian location.
  2. Amazon stores your inventory. When your shipment arrives, Amazon scans each carton into its inventory system before placing it into storage. Provided the shipment has been prepared and labelled correctly, products are typically available for sale within three working days of delivery.
  3. Customers buy your product. The stored item stays available for sale on Amazon.com.au until a customer places an order for it.
  4. Amazon picks, packs and ships the order. Once an eligible order is placed, Amazon's warehouse team locates the product, packs it for dispatch and ships it directly to the customer, allowing sellers to outsource the fulfilment process.
  5. Amazon provides 24/7 customer service. Amazon handles post-sale customer enquiries, refunds and returns. If a returned item is assessed as sellable, it is added back into the seller's sellable inventory.

Book Full Truck Load Shipping to an Amazon Warehouse with Couriers & Freight

After Amazon assigns a fulfilment centre through your shipment plan, the next challenge is getting your inventory there efficiently, especially if you're shipping palletised or bulk freight.

Once you understand how Amazon allocates and processes inventory, the next decision is how to move a bulk shipment into the fulfilment centre assigned to your shipment plan.

For example, a Melbourne seller restocking ahead of the Boxing Day sales period may need to send multiple pallets to meet expected demand. In that situation, Full Truck Load (FTL) freight is suited to transporting a dedicated shipment directly to the assigned Amazon fulfilment centre.

Couriers & Freight provides Full Truck Load (FTL) freight for businesses sending bulk inventory to Amazon warehouses across Australia.
