Small Parcel Delivery Rules: Amazon FBA Box Limits and Carrier Requirements

Small parcel delivery to Amazon FBA warehouses now requires an approved carrier, as Amazon’s Australian fulfilment centres no longer accept self-delivered small parcel shipments.

Amazon introduced the change on 1 September 2025, meaning Australian FBA sellers must arrange small parcel shipments through a third-party carrier, Amazon SEND or the Partnered Carrier Program.

If you’re sending inventory to Amazon FBA, understand the Amazon FBA box limits, weight requirements, and labelling rules before your cartons leave the warehouse. This guide explains the key small parcel delivery requirements and the shipping options available to Australian sellers.

Amazon FBA Small Parcel Delivery Rules: Summary

Amazon FBA small parcel shipments in Australia must meet specific box, weight, labelling and carrier requirements. Since 1 September 2025, Amazon’s Australian fulfilment centres no longer accept self-delivered small parcel shipments. Sellers must arrange SPD shipments through a third-party carrier, Amazon SEND or the Partnered Carrier Program.

Key requirements include:

  • Keep standard boxes at or below 50 lb (22.7 kg), unless the box contains a single oversized item.
  • Keep boxes containing multiple standard-size or oversized items within Amazon’s applicable dimension limits.
  • For independent third-party carrier shipments, check the applicable length and girth requirements before booking.
  • Use the correct FBA Shipping Label and Carrier Label on every box, positioned so the barcodes remain readable.
  • Choose an approved shipping option based on your shipment type, destination and booking requirements.
For domestic shipments, Couriers & Freight can help sellers compare available carrier options and arrange parcel delivery.

Amazon FBA Box and Weight Limits for Small Parcel Delivery

For standard small parcel shipments, each box should not exceed 50 lb (22.7 kg), unless it contains a single oversized item. Amazon’s current shipping guidance allows boxes containing multiple items up to 36 inches long, 25 inches wide and 25 inches high, subject to the applicable shipment requirements.

A box containing a single oversized item may exceed the standard dimensions when the item itself requires the extra space, but the carton should remain closely fitted to the product.

Independent third-party carrier boxes are allowed up to 108 inches (274 cm) in length, with length and girth combined capped at 165 inches (419 cm). For small parcel delivery, Amazon states that Partnered Carrier Program shipments can contain up to 200 boxes.

  • Keep each standard box at or below 50 lb (22.7 kg).
  • Keep boxes containing multiple units within 25 inches (63.5 cm) on every side where the Partnered Carrier Program requirements apply.
  • Use a single oversized item when a box needs to exceed the 25-inch limit.
  • Keep the box close to the oversized item’s dimensions while allowing enough space for appropriate cushioning.
  • Keep the total number of boxes within the applicable shipment limit shown in Seller Central when creating the shipment.

Consider a homewares seller in Adelaide packing cartons of stoneware mugs and cast-iron cookware for an FBA restock.

The seller weighs each carton before sealing it and measures every side against Amazon's box limits. If a carton contains a single oversized item, the seller checks that the box is only large enough to accommodate the item and its required cushioning.

Before the cartons leave the warehouse, the seller can also check Couriers & Freight’s Preparing Boxes guide to confirm the packing requirements.

Labelling Requirements for Small Parcel Shipments to Amazon

Place each label on a flat surface, away from corners, edges, seams, and tape lines, so the barcode remains readable. Each box needs two separate labels: the FBA Shipping Label and the Carrier Label. Amazon recommends placing shipment labels on a flat surface, away from corners and edges, so the barcodes remain readable. Where possible, place labels at least 1.25 inches (3.2 cm) from any box edge.

  • Never place a label over a box seam or tape line. A label positioned across a seam can be damaged when the box is opened, making the barcode unscannable.
  • Cover or remove old shipment labels and markings from any reused box. This prevents an outdated label from being mistaken for the current shipment label.

Check every label before the carton leaves your warehouse. A label placed across a seam can be damaged when the box is opened, making the barcode difficult or impossible to scan and potentially delaying processing.

Choosing a Carrier for Amazon FBA Small Parcel Delivery

Amazon FBA sellers have three compliant options for small parcel delivery:

  1. Amazon Partnered Carrier Program
  2. Third-party carriers
  3. Amazon SEND

The appropriate option depends on the shipment’s origin and destination. It also depends on whether you ship inventory within Australia or import it from overseas.

Amazon FBA Small Parcel Shipping Methods Compared

Shipping Method Description Best For
Amazon Partnered Carrier Program Amazon-integrated shipping booked directly through Seller Central at negotiated rates. Domestic shipments that meet the Partnered Carrier Program's current eligibility requirements and need a direct booking process inside Seller Central.
Third-Party Carrier An independent commercial carrier booked outside Seller Central, with the required delivery arrangements made through the relevant Amazon process. Sellers who want to arrange delivery through an approved third-party carrier rather than Amazon's partnered programme. Carrier availability can vary by destination and shipment requirements.
Amazon SEND An Amazon-managed inbound shipping option available for eligible cross-border shipments from supported origins into Australian fulfilment centres. Sellers importing inventory from overseas rather than shipping domestically within Australia.

Comparison of the three compliant small parcel delivery options for Amazon FBA sellers in Australia: the Amazon Partnered Carrier Program, third-party carriers and Amazon SEND.

Sellers importing inventory from overseas rather than shipping domestically within Australia.

Choose the shipping method based on the shipment type, destination and current Amazon eligibility requirements. Domestic shipments can use the Partnered Carrier Program or a suitable third-party carrier, while Amazon SEND is available only for supported international origins and shipment types. Check Seller Central before booking.
